Skill : Intermediate to advanced.
Target: /etc/hosts
Preparation:
Your iphone must be JAIL-Broken. Refer here to see your available version.
Do a full backup on itune or any other third party software like SynIOS or IfunBox. Just in case.
For this i use Ifunbox Classic Mode to trasnfer files.
Action time!
1. Download "Terminal" in Cydia. Just search for it. Make sure its compatible for your version.
2. Open "Terminal" and type "su root" [It will ask you for Administration password. the Default password is "alpine"
3. So, after that type "passwd mobile" to change your Iphone Password for permission access.
Type "alpine" and confirm by retyping.
*NOTE: This should be temporarily. Please change it after you had finish your things here.
4. Go download hosts file in MVPS [hosts.zip] or Adsblock Xda here.
*NOTE: the Xda version the filesize is ridiculous BIG. Try out the MVPS first.
**NOTE: Be sure to extract out the hosts file.
5. Open your IfunBox and select Classic Mode. In there you should able to see the Tree structure of your iphone. Go to:
/rawfilesystem/etc/
you can see the existing hosts file there. Rename the hosts file to whatever name.. for eg. "BACKUPhosts"
6. Now drag the "hosts" file you downloaded earlier in the window. Ifunbox auto detect default password as "alpine"
7. Great.. that's it. Restart your phone. Check any ads still running around in any apps? Recheck your hosts file in Ifunbox, See whether its overwritten by empty or not. Your downloaded hosts file SHOULD be there.
8. Repeat steps 2-3 to change your Iphone Mobile password to whatever name you like. This is for security purposes.
